SAADA events -Opening of the Burr and Muir Art Gallery on 1st December 2011.We have been in business since 1987, specialising in Art Nouveau and Art Deco. In the course of our trading, we have purchased South African art for our personal collections, as well as for trading, artists like Irma Stern, Maggie Laubser, Alexis Preller, Pierneef, and Gerard Sekoto. So it is not then too surprising that, after Christopher Moller Art moved to new premises, we are re-opening the upstairs of our shop as our own art gallery. We will not be having a glamorous opening, however, our art gallery will officially be open from 1 December. Our weekday hours are 9.30 am to 4.30 pm, and Saturdays from 9.30 am to 1 pm. Our aim is to feature work by some compemporary artists, such as Hardy Botha and Eris Silke, as well as work by the ‘old order’ artists that we purchase in the course of conducting business for our shop. We have on offer works by Hugo Naude, Iris Ampenburger, Nita Spilhaus, George Diedrich During, Abraham De Smidt, Leng Dixon, Pieter van der Westhuizen, Claerhout, Errol Boyley, Adriaan Boshoff and Hennie Nieman. We will also devote a room to the works of lesser known artists, such as Anne-Marie Sloan, Geoff Burr, Amran Matjam, and David Porter. We will attempt, where possible, to keep prices extremely competitive, so that you may have a serendipitous experience. We look forward to introducing you to our new gallery. |
