RICUS DULLAERT OF KUNSTHANDEL H.W.C.DULLAERT.
The antique scene of South Africa was been enriched with a new face
three and a half years ago. The first experiences Ricus had in antique-dealing
were not in South Africa. As a 17 year old he began exhibiting on a small
fair in his hometown Zutphen, the Netherlands were he offered antique
silver and watches. When he was 21 years old he and his twin brother Peter
opened an antiqueshop in the same town and exhibited at antique fairs
all over the Netherlands. In 1989 Ricus joined the prestigious Flandres
antiques fair in the Belfort in Bruges. In that same year he opened his
gallery on Keizersgracht in Amsterdam. In 1990 Ricus acquired the title
of sworn appraiser in antiques. In that same year he joined the prestigious
art fairs in Breda (Nederlandse Kunst en Antiekbeurs Breda) and Amsterdam
(Pictura Amsterdam National). On the latter he will exhibit in November
2010 for the 20th time. Ricus is also a regular exhibitor at both the
Cape Town and Johannesburg SAADA fairs, as well as the NAADA and Nelson
Mandela Square fairs. In the Netherlands Ricus has a good name as a dealer
in Russian & Greek icons as well as in general antiques. In South
Africa Ricus mainly deals in Dutch 17th and 18th century armoires and
other Dutch antiques. This furniture resembles the Cape Furniture from
the 17th and 18th century. On the S.A.A.D.A. fair in October Ricus will
exhibit:
Two 18th century Amsterdam long case clocks (one with a dial with the
Christmas scene, the other with an automaton with sailing ships), a burr
walnut and a mahogany 18th century Dutch armoire, two compagnie kists
from the 18th century, a South African colonial family bible printed in
1756 in Dordrecht with a family chronicle from the Coetzer-Duplessis family
from Cradock, a rare 19th century hunting cabinet from Bavaria to store
guns, a 17th/19th century Dutch diaper cabinet and a 17th century Dutch
‘kussenkast’ veneered with pallisander and ebony.
