RIAAN BOLT – A PAIR OF CAPE STINKWOOD AND YELLOWWOOD INLAID NEO-CLASSICAL CHAIRS

image-4-edit

A pair of Cape Stinkwood and Yellowwood Inlaid Neo-Classical Chairs, late 18th c. The Neo-Classical Style was popular in Europe from about 1760 to 1820 and first reached the Cape in the late 1780s with the arrival of the French Troops to support the Dutch in defending the Cape against the British. The yellowwood inlay work, architectural details and proportions predominant in this particular pair set them apart from the majority of other known examples. Their beautiful patina tells the story of their journey from the day they were made to the present day. Their elegant design makes them a timeless addition to any modern interior.
