We have been working hard over the last 2 months preparing a new catalogue of Medical, Technical and Scientific Books. We have catalogued nearly 1 500 books and we will be posting the illustrated catalogue to our website soon. This will be followed by an exhibition of the books at our Kalk Bay shop. Sunstroke

Title: Thermic Fever, or Sunstroke. Author: H.C. Wood Publisher: J.B. Lipincott, Philadelphia, 1872 An early study of the pathology of sunstroke. The author held the chairs of botany, therapeutics and neurology at the University of Pennsylvania.

Title: A Rudimentary Treatise on the History, Construction, and Illumination of Lighthouses Author: Alan Stevenson Publisher: John Weale, London, 1850 Engraved frontis and 13 plates to the rear. Numerous woodcuts throughout the text.

Title: A Preliminary Introduction to the Act of Sea-Bathing. Author: John Anderson Publisher: C.Dilly, Margate, 1795 An interesting and very scarce 28 page booklet essentially defending the scientific status of the benefits of bathing in the sea. At the time of publication, swimming in the ocean was thought to premote lascivious thoughts, incest, and moral turpitude.
