An important Russian gold oblong snuff-box

Distinguishing Features:
The lid, mounted with a panel of mother-of-pearl and diamond set gold representing a group of figures before a colonnade on blue enamel ground, the sides and base with similar small group of mother-of-pearl figures, the narrow gold borders engraved with diaperwork anf foliage, the lid with diamond thumbpiece, St Petersburg, circa 1760, maker’s mark N.H. perhaps for Andreas Nilsson Hall working at St Petersburg 1749-60. The panels probably imported Berlin work.
